A word of explanation about the power output of the LA-125B. The catalog description (see link above) boasts that the unit
delivers 160 watts (80 watts x 2) of music power at 4-ohms, +/- 1 db. This grossly over-inflated figure was typical of some
firms' advertising back in those far-off days. High Fidelity's test report found that the LA-125B could deliver 28.10 watts
continuous power per channel into an 8-ohm load, with both channels driven simultaneously. While 28.10 watts per channel was
the measured max, the normal average listening power level was quite likely in the 1 to 5 watt per channel range. Any power
beyond five watts was needed only for briefly louder passages of music. In sum, the LA-125B, matched with the right speakers,
was more than capable of producing clean room-filling sound in many sound system set-ups.
