The Ringworld (FGF) -- Suggestion One (1) Earth Distant

See Also: Suggestion Two (2) Mars Distant

This presentation makes the assumption that the Ringworld structure lies at -- or slightly beyond -- the farthest point
the Earth is from the Sun in any given year, about 152.00 million kilometers or 94.50 million miles. Also assumed is that
the Ringworld structure itself is completely circular. This contrasts with the Earth's elliptical orbit around the Sun.
As a result, the total length of the Ringworld is assumed to be a little less than the average distance the Earth takes
to revolve around the Sun, which is about 937.936 milion kilometers (give or take).

In addition to the habitable Ringworld, there is also an inner ring which serves to control the amount of natural light
the habitable Ringworld receives, allowing for night and day, as well as temperature control of various regions, backing
up the many environmental controls present on the habitable ring itself.
907,486,250 Kilometers - Basic Length (very conservative figure)

times 2,529,600 Kilometers - Basic Width

  equals 2.295577218 (+/-) x 10(15) Square Kilometers

times 0.740 (less 13.00% of basic width each side)

»» Sides beyond the habitable surface areas are devoted to absorption
and amplification of sunlight, and to structural integrity fields.
There are also several hundred million sunlight gathering stations
within the habitable areas. Even though the amount of sunlight they
absorb is filtered by the inner ring, these stations -- backed by
super-amplifiers under the surface -- provide plenty of power.

equals 1.698727141 (+/-) x 10(15) Square Kilometers total surface area

times 0.274036138 (less all major-minor bodies of water, which make up
72.58638620 % of the total available surface area)

equals 4.655126253 (+/-) x 10(14) Square Kilometers land area only

divided by 148,940,000 (Earth's actual land area in square km.)

equals 3,125,504.3999135 (+/-) times Earth's land surface area.

Ringworld Thickness -- At least 256.371 Kilometers (159.301555 +/- miles)

»» Underneath the land surfaces, as well as under the ocean floors,
there is topsoil and hard rock, each with abundant minerals.
Also, there are quadrillions of kilometers (and more) of tunnels
for the flow of water, as well as for the distribution of greatly
      re-amplified solar power.

Also below are quadrillions of kilometers (and more) of fiber
optic cables, carrying a mix of television, internet, telephone
and ringworld control data signals. Given all the underneath
space, the fiber cables themselves can be much larger in
diameter than their "old Earth" counterparts, and can carry
information at greater speeds and capacities without signal
loss or external interference, as is the occasional case with
      above-ground wireless systems.
