Part I - Older Analog TV and FM Radio Channel Assignments
KHZ = Kilohertz (1,000 cycles per second)
MHZ = Megahertz (1,000,000 cycles per second)
VHF = Very High Frequency | UHF = Ultra High Frequency

  U.S.A. FM Radio: 88.00 to 108.00 MHZ ... 100 Channels, each 200 KHZ Wide

U.S.A. TV: Originally 82 Channels ... Each is 6.00 MHZ Wide

  VHF-Lo -- Ch's 2 thru 4 ..... 54.00 to 72.00 MHZ (3)
         |- Ch's 5 and 6 ...... 76.00 to 88.00 MHZ (2)
  VHF-Hi ... Ch's 7 thru 13 .... 174.00 to 216.00 MHZ (7)

NOTE -- the 72 to 76 MHZ space is shared with "other services".

  UHF Ch's 14 thru 36 .... 470.00 to 608.00 MHZ (23)
       Ch's 38 thru 83 .... 614.00 to 890.00 MHZ (46)

NOTE -- the 608 to 614 MHZ space that would have been used for Channel 37
was reserved for use by a special set of research groups. No U.S.
TV station has ever broadcast using the Channel 37 frequency.

Phase out of analog portions ....

  »» 806 to 890 mhz (ch's 70 to 83) -- early 1980s.
  »» 614 to 806 mhz (ch's 38 to 69) -- during 2010's period.

... these frequencies now serve cell phones and other devices.

Current Digital TV channel allocations ...

  »» VHF 2, 5, 6, 7 thru 13 (54-60, 76-88, 174-216 mhz)
  »» UHF 14 thru 36 (470-608 mhz)

Part II - Alternative, Never-Used Digital FM Radio Channel Assignments
KHZ = Kilohertz (1,000 cycles per second)
MHZ = Megahertz (1,000,000 cycles per second)
VHF = Very High Frequency | UHF = Ultra High Frequency

  U.S.A. "Shared": 54.00 to 68.00 MHZ ...

Re-location (and expansion) of shared services formerly
located in the older analog 72 to 76 MHZ space.

  U.S.A. FM Radio: 68.00 to 108.00 MHZ ...

200 channel allocations, each being 200-KHZ wide.

Two stereo partitions per channel allocation, a potential
total of 400. Four mono or two stereo SCA partitions per
channel, a potentional total of 800 (mono only).

Each digital channel has a three-digit main ID Number. The ID
range is 100 to 499. Within each channel are up to two stereo
partitions, sub-labeled A or B. One simply selects the 3-digit
     3-digit station number plus a letter (A or B).

Selection examples - Country Music station at 164A, Top 40 Pop
Station at 407B, News Channel Station at 359A.

SCA services are available on specially authorized SCA-capable
receivers. On each such unit, one can press the "SCA Mono" or
"SCA Stereo" button, followed by the three-digit channel
number, a dash and then the individual SCA service sub-number.
When selecting a stereo service, only odd-number entries
(1 or 3) will be accepted.

     Selection examples ... SCA Mono 109-1, 213-4, 370-2
                             SCA Stereo 382-3, 195-1, 444-3

     Breakdown of a 200-KHZ allocation .....

     »» 35 KHZ ... Lower Boundary Buffer
     »» 50 KHZ ... Channel Control Section

     »» 80 KHZ ... Audio Section

Broken down into four 20-KHZ divisions. Within each such
division there is an 8-KHZ separation buffer, followed by
a 12-KHZ audio stream (regular or SCA). Each audio stream
has an uncompressed range of 16 KHZ.

          Stereo Partitions -OR- SCA Sub-Numbers

          A - Left / Right   ||  1, 2  (1-stereo only)
          B - Left / Right   ||  3, 4  (3-stereo only)

     »» 35 KHZ ... Upper Boundary Buffer

U.S.A. Digital TV Channels ... Three MHZ (3,000 KHZ) Wide

I - Likely digital TV channel assignments over the older traditional
analog TV frequencies. This assumes that the VHF-Lo frequencies
occupied by Channels 2 thru 6 have been re-assigned to Digital
FM radio, as well as to other services.

ID Range in MHZ (division) TV Channels / Services

     VHF-Hi .... 174.00 to 216.00 (42/3) ... 1 to 14
     UHF-A ..... 470.00 to 605.00 (135/3) .. 15 to 59 **
Reserved .. 605.00 to 617.00 (varies) Public / Private Services
     UHF-B ..... 617.00 to 698.00 (81/3) ... 60 to 86 **

II - Assuming even more changes across the radio spectrum, an
alrernative Digital TV channel assignment scheme --

ID Range in MHZ (division) TV Channels / Services

     VHF-Hi .... 172.00 to 220.00 (48/3) ... 1 to 16
     UHF-A ..... 460.00 to 604.00 (144/3) .. 17 to 64 **

     UHF-B ..... 619.00 to 697.00 (78/3) ... 65 to 90 **

** = Public service radio-data channels may also be assigned within
the UHF-A and B ranges in areas where the frequencies are not
       assigned to TV channels.
