Baseball - Proposed Expansion, ReAlignment and 32-Team 132-Game Schedule ... Frank's Humble Abode ... frankosite2020.com ... formerly known as frankosport.com

1. League Alignment

Each league has sixteen teams and four 4-team divisions.         See the article page   "The 32 Teams".

2. The Regular Season                 See also ... One Team's 132-game Season Schedule

The regular season is shortened from 162 to 132 games, and is contested over 23 weeks. 22 of those weeks will
have teams playing two 3-game series (one early week, one late week) vs scheduled opponents. The remaining
week, always in early July, will feature the annual All-Star Series Games.

   2-a. Divisional Play ... 54 (of 132) total games

The four teams in each division would face each other eighteen times each year in six three-game series.

   2-b. Intra-League Play ... 54 (of 132) total games             Intra-league Annual Schedules

The Intra-League scheduling formula allows all four teams within a given division to play one six game series
(3-home, 3-away) versus all four teams in a designated division within the same league -- 24 games in all.

The Intra-League scheduling formula also allows for a team to play one 3-game series (home and away rotated
annually) with all teams in each non-designated division of the same league. One extra three-game series would
be played against one team in each non-designated division which has the same previous year division finish
(1st place, 2nd place, etc.) as that of your own team. Overall, a total of 30 games are played in this regard.

2-c. Interleague Play ... 24 (of 132) total games             Interleague Annual Schedules

Interleague schedules would have teams in a division of one league play six games each (3 home, 3 away) with
teams of a designated division in the other league on a rotating basis of four years, making for 24 games in all.

2-d. TIES: Regular Season Games Limited to 12 Innings

All regular season games with no resolution after 12 innings would be declared Tie Games, and such games
would count in the standings. Section # 5 below explains Wins, Losses and Ties in greater detail.

3. The All-Star Games Series             More details here (click-on)

Each year, two All-Star games, one in an American League city, the other in a National League city, will be played
during the second full week in July. All-Star Week will be a full seven-day break from regular season play. The first
All-Star game will be played on Tuesday night, and the second game will be played on Thursday night.

If needed, any regular season games that were either cancelled or else not finished can be played over the weekend
immediately after the second All-Star game.

4. The Post Season                     More details here (click-on)

   4-a. Pennant Championship Series

The Pennant Championship Series is a three-week tournament where in each league, the four division winners
meet each other in individual five-game series, all contested over a three-week period. In each such series, lower
seeded teams host the first two games, while the higher seeded teams host the final three games.

The team in each league with the best Pennant Championship Series record, including head-to-head
tiebreakers, advances directly to the World Series.

4-b. The World Series       The World Series would be a best five-of-nine game affair.

   NOTE ...
In the entire proposed "132" post-season, a potential total of 69 games could be played -- the sixty (60) Pennant
Championship Series games, as well as up to nine (9) World Series games. In contrast, the current actual MLB
season can pytentially have a total of up to 43 games.

For just one team, up to 24 postseason games (15 Pennant, up to nine World Series) may be played. In the current
actual M.L.B. post-season, one team could play as many as 20 games (with wild card) or 19 games (no wild card).

For the entire proposed "132" season, counting all regular and post season games, one team could potentially play
up to 156 games, six less than the current actual total of 162 games just in the regular season alone !!!

5. Win-Loss-Tie Points System / Tie-Breakers for Division Title, Playoff Seed

The Points System would replace MLB's long-standing win-loss percentage system. Basics are as follows ....

»» Win ....... Five (5) points to winning team
»» Tie ........ Two (2) points to each team
»» Loss ..... Zero (0) points to the losing team

   Example ... A Team's Regular-Season Record

      Games: 77 of 132 won ...... (x 5) = 385 points
              6 of 132 tied ...... (x 2) =   12 points
            49 of 132 lost ....... (x 0) =     0 points
        - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -----
Regular Season Grand Total ......... 397 points

For comparison purposes with the current actual M.L.B. win-loss percentage format,
the percentage here is 0.6015151, 397 points divided by 660 points (132 games x 5).

   Tie-Breaker Procedure

A Tie Breaker System, based on the points accrued from wins and ties, would determine all manner of team
standings -- playoff seeds, as well as division winners and finishers.

Because of the Tie Breaker System, special one game play-offs for division titles would no longer be necessary.
Eliminating such play-off games, allows the post-season to get started much sooner.

Division Title/Finish and Playoff Seed Tie-Breakers

    All points (wins and ties) ....... Priority 1, 2, 3, 4 Head-To-Head ...................... 1, 5, 10
    Net Total Runs Scored ........... Priority 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 Vs. Own Division ................. 2, 6, 11
    Net Earned Runs Scored ....... Priority 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 Vs. Common Opponents .... 3, 7, 12
    -OR- Vs. Own League .................. 4, 8, 13
    If all else fails ......................... Best 5-Throw Dice Score *** Vs. All Opponents ............... --, 9, 14

*** = Two dice will be thrown up to five times per each tied team. The team with the highest dice sum total at the
end of all five throws wins the tie-breaker. If two or more teams remain tied after all throws, then a sudden-
death "throw-off" will be performed, to continue until one team wins over the other(s).
