Grouping of the States .. 1912 to 1956 See also groupings for 1960 to the Present and 1900 to 1908 The addition of Arizona (Group-A) and New Mexico (Group-C) to the USA in 1912 raises the Union's membership to 48 states, and results in a re-ordering of the five groups for 1912 thru 1956. Grouping of the States .. 1900 to 1908 See also groupings for 1960 to the Present and 1912 to 1956 The Union has 45 states in the 1900 and 1904 elections, with nine states in each group. Oklahoma joins the USA in 1907, raising Union membership to 46 states, and is placed in Group D for 1908. As a result of Oklahoma's addition, South Dakota is moved to Group E for 1908.
